Camels and nomads

Blog 4:

Traveled through a beautiful green valley before going into the Sahara for some camel trekking. Camels really are disgusting creatures, but it was a more comfortable ride then I was anticipating. Walked up a very steep sand dune to enjoy a beautiful sunset. Slept under the stars and fell asleep listening to Berber drumming. The stars were quite amazing and intensified throughout the night. Surprisingly enough a chicken woke up the camp. Where a chicken came from in the desert I haven't got a clue, but the sunrise over the Algerian border was lovely.
Upon arriving in Todra Gorge I wanted nothing more then a shower to rise all the sand and grit off. Am staying in the lovely little hotel that has a beautiful Terrance and a freezing cold pool.
Did a great hike up the Gorge this morning and shared thyme tea with some nomads. It is so humbling and brings such perspective to ones life when seeing how a nomadic family of 12 live. I can't even imagine what it would be like to live in tents and caves with such little. We are so dependent on technology to survive, an yet this family literally has to walk miles for water. This is why I like to travel. It truly opens your eyes to how differently people live.
